3 1/2 out of 5 stars

A very slow paced movie with little action. A touching movie about a dying women and her 2 daughters. The woman keeps speaking of Buddy and Harris and through flashbacks shows her when she was young andx the trials and tribulations she went through. Great actresses including Claire Danes, Toni Collette,Vanessa Redgrave, Natasha Richardson, Mamie Gummer, Eileen Atkins, Meryl Streep, and Glenn Close.

License To Wed

3 1/2 out of 5 stars

Pretty funny movie starring Mandy Moore, Robin Williams, and John Krasinski. It is about a couple (Krasinski and Moore) who have to go through a marriage course before they can get married. Williams plays the pastor that leads them thorugh the course. It is filled with akward moments and hilarious moments. The acting is great and is such a cute movie.

A Mighty Heart

4 1/2 out of 5 stars

This is based on the true story of Daniel Pearl. It was tense and thrilling and an interesting story. Angelina Jolie as Mariane Pearl plays the role very well and gives a great performance.

Show Business: The Road To Broadway

5 out of 5 stars

Show Business is a great documentary about 4 musicals that opened in 2003 including Wicked, Avenue Q, Taboo, and Caroline, or Change and the behind the scenes action on their road through production and to the Tonys. This movie was entertaining and even funnier than some comedies. The whole audience was gut laughing at some of the scenes and this movie was a great look into what it takes to put on a Broadway musical.

Evan Almighty

3 out of 5 stars

A great summer family time movie! Its about Evan Baxter, the new congressman, who'se slogan is change the world. God asks Evan to build an ark for the flood that is coming. Evan hesitates at first and then builds the ark with the help of his family. The "flood" was well done and somewhat believable and wasn't a great movie but a fun clean family comedy!

1408

4 1/2 out of 5 stars.

A movie starring John Cusack based on a Stephen King short story. Cusack's character, Mike Enslin, is a 'ghost hunter' and writes books on different haunted places such as mansions and hotels. He gets a postcard from The Dolphin Hotel in NY and it says don't go in room 1408. Of course after never finding any hint of paranormal activity Mike goes to the hotel and after the hotel manager gives him stern warnings he still decides to stay over night. The manager tells him there has been 56 deaths in room 1408 and shows him the pictures of the deaths. This is when the nightmare begins. With a great twist 1408 is a tense thriller that delivered with very little gore.

Chalk

4 out of 5 stars

Chalk is a 'documentary' style movie about 3 teachers and 1 new assistant principal (AP). It shows teaching from the perspective of the teachers and the struggles they go through with their kids, other teachers, and social lives outside the classroom. A very funny movie that teachers and students can connect to!

Waitress

4 out of 5 stars

Keri Russell (Felicity) plays Jenna an extraordinary pie baker who works at Joe's Pie Diner with Dawn (Adrienne Shelly) and Becky (Cheryl Hines) and whose life turns upside down when she gets pregnant by her abusive controlling husband. She had been saving some of her paycheck and tips to get away from her husband and doesn't want the baby. She has a intimate relationship with her doctor, Dr. Pomatter (Nathan Fillon). The ending was good and Jenna straightens out what she needs to in her life to be happy.

Knocked Up

4 out of 5 stars

One of the funniest movies of the summer. Hilarious and charming comedy starring Katherine Heigl who works for E! ends up being pregnant after a one night stand with the slacker stoner Ben played by Seth Rogan. They try to make it work for the baby's sake and there are ups and downs and overall the movie is hilarious and charming.

Hostel: Part II

2 1/2 out of 5 stars

Advertised as the best horror movie in years and having the most shocking ending and failed to deliver on both aspects. The movie left me waiting for something shocking, suspenseful or even just plain gory to happen. The movie is about 3 girls who are taking a class in Rome who decide to go to Prague for the weekend and then are persuaded to go to Slovakia to visit the natural hot springs. There one by one they are kidnapped and tortured.

Bug

3 out of 5 stars

First don't go to this movie expecting it to be a horror movie like it was marketed. This movie was about Ashley Judd's character meeting a guy through her friend. He spends the night and then he realizes they have bugs in the hotel room. You never quite knew what was going to happen or what was real or even who was who. The movie overall was really intense and the ending was awesome.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End

4 3/4 out of 5 stars

A great addition to the Pirates series. At World's End starts of where the last one ends, trying to save Jack from Davy Jones locker. The most powerful part of the movie is the first scenes where those who have associated with pirates are being hung and then they start singing Yo ho all together... and then the rest of the movie was full of action with a few comedic elements. Though the last 5-10 minutes of the movie were right out of a cheesy romance novel that doesn't take away from the powerful scenes before that.

Georgia Rule

3 out of 5 stars

I guess it helps when you go in with low expectations from all the bad reviews to a movie but Georgia Rule exceeded my expectations. This story is about mother (Felicity Huffman) who is a raging alcoholic and her daughter (Lindsey Lohan) who is rebellious and is sent to the grandmother's (Jane Fonda) house. There secrets about sexual abuse are revealed and the question of truth is a main theme in the movie. Decent movie with a decent plot that could have been better.

Shrek the Third

4 out of 5 stars

One of the best movies of the summer [so far]. Shrek the Third brought back the main charcters from 1 and 2 including Shrek, Fiona, Donkey, Puss In Boots, Gingy, Pinocchio, and more and also added a few more interesting characters including Artie and all the princesses (you know Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, and Cinderella). This like the others is full of funny jokes all can enjoy while throwing in some stuff (especially music) that the parents and older audience would enjoy.

Spiderman 3

3 1/2 out of 5 stars

Not as impressive as the first two Spiderman movies and especially the first one. This movie starts with Parker very famous and still saving lives but now he is planning to marry Mary Jane. We then are introduced to the "New Goblin" Harry and the Sandman who we find out is the real killer of Parker's Uncle Ben. A weird black ooze from a meteor creates the black Spiderman that eventually turns Eddie Brock into Venom who wants revenge on Parker for ruining his photography career at the paper. Though I didn't like the overall plot I loved the characters the Sandman and Venom and the action scenes were awesome. There were 2 points in the movie where I could hear the whole audience gasp and jump. One time to see it is good enough for me.

In The Land Of Women

4 1/2 out of 5 stars

Surprisingly not your typical romantic comedy. Adam Brody stars as Carter who has just been dumped. He goes from LA to surburban Detroit to get away and stay with his Grandma. He meets the Hardwicke family which includes the mother, Sarah, and the daughter, Lucy. Carter develops deep relationships with both women and the end comes with all of them realizing things they had been missing/needing in their life.

Wind Chill

3 out of 5 stars

A horror film with a great storyline that left the audience with little in the scare department. This movie starred Emily Blunt who is most noted for her performance in The Devil Wears Prada. In WC she loses the British accent and is at college and is looking for a ride home. She finds the guys number off the ride board and he turns out to be kind of stalkerish and doesn't live in Deleware where she lives. He takes scenic route 606 which turns out to be the place where a lot of people had died. I thought this movie had a great concept but failed to build the suspense.

Avenue Montaigne

3 out of 5 stars.

A French film that seems follows Jessica as she gets a job as a waitress in Paris near a theatre, concert hall, and an auction house. There she meets a famous actress, a concert pianist, and an art collector who is selling his life's worth of art he has collected over the years. This movie is a cute romantic comedy that shows the interations between Jessica and the people she meets. The acting was decent and I love the fact that it was set in Paris and was spoken in French which made it an experience for me (why its 1/2 a star higher).

Other titles: Fauteuils d'orchestre and Orchestra Seats which is the translation of the French title that was used in its Canada release.

Diggers

4 out of 5 stars

Diggers starring is a film starring Paul Rudd and Maura Tierney about clam diggers that is set in the 70's. A family clam digging business is short one after the father dies and their way of life is threatened when a big company takes over the water. This movie is the telling of someones life but in a way where even the boring parts are interesting. One word of advice is do not go see this movie thinking it is a comedy because in this day and age we compare them to Will Ferrel's movies that are extreme stupid funny comedies. I personally think it is more of a drama with comedic elements. The acting of Rudd was surprisingly good and Tierney was great as the "grieving" sister.

Year of the Dog

4 out of 5 stars

A very strange dark comedy starring Molly Shannon as Peggy. This movie movie made me laugh, gasp, and sad. It is a "coming of age" story so to speak in that Peggy through some weird and extreme situations with lots of dogs realizes what the meaning of her life is. My favorite part is when she took her niece to go visit "her" chicken. You'll just have to go see it to understand. This movie has strong pro-PETA scenes but is just used to develop Peggy's personality and it actually makes this movie even funnier. I recommend this to everyone who likes weird dark comedies, dog lovers, PETA members, or even people who don't like/care for animals that much.

Vacancy

3 out of 5 stars

The plot was about a couple (Luke Wilson and Kate Beckinsale) who while going on a trip their car breaks down and they have to stay at this creepy motel where they find out there have been murders in the same room they are staying in. It was an interesting plot but could have done more and the ending was just eh. Got 1/2 a star higher because I like the combination of Luke Wilson and Kate Beckinsale for some reason. I think that their situation called for them to be uncomfortable around each other and they sure made me feel that they felt way.

Disturbia

3 (formerly undecided) out of 5 stars

I can't decide on this movie. It was one of those plots that was predictable but still it kept me somewhat interested. It was a good role for Shia La Beouf to take but overall it was predicatable and the only thing that was good was the realistic car crash in the beginning. I decided to give it a 3 out of 5 because being PG 13 the younger side and some of the older side can appreciate this suspense thriller.

Grindhouse

3 3/4 out of 5 stars

Double feature that includes violence and a some sex. Though it failed to make back what was spent Grindhouse was a thrill ride. First part was Planet Terror which was back to back action about people infected and turning into "zombies" and a few select people including Cherry Darling who has a machine gun for a leg, El Wray whose identity is "hidden", and Dr. Dakota Block who does some major damage with needles who try to stop it. There is enough blood and guts and it was so nasty at one part it made me gag! (Which never happpens to me especially during movies) The second part Death Proof was about Stuntman Mike who stalks and kills women using his car. This movie was great and the car chase scene was great. I would recommend this to people (mainly guys but not limited to) who like action, blood, guts, and who can resist a doube feature... 2 for the price of 1.

Blades of Glory

3 out of 5 stars

**Went in with the mindset of not having to think and just getting to laugh and that is why it is 1/2 a star higher** It is one of those stupid funny movies that you just have to go see if you're in the mood to laugh. Will Ferrell's charcter Chazz was just plain stupid but was funny. 2 things I found funny/liked about the movie was the stalker and Jenna Fischer who played Katie.

Pan's Labyrinth

5 out of 5 stars

An amazing fantasy adventure with strong violent and "horror" scenes that go along with the plot. This movie kept my interest the whole way through and it never ceased to surprise me! Definitely a recommendation to everyone but does have English subtitles but don't let that deter you from this movie!
